The Totals is the culmination of singer-songwriter Mohsin Kaiser Siddiqui’s life long love of music and the circle of talented musicians he met along the way.
British-born Mohsin grew up surrounded by music, his love for which stemmed from his family’s large record collection, alongside an adoration of films and music videos. Mohsin’s own collection started with Oasis’s “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” and continued through the Britpop era into the early 2000’s indie-rock revival, shifting as he moved from the UK to Canada and finally landing in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mohsin became a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and evolved from recording in his parent’s basement on a cassette deck, to tracking on his own laptop as he studied film in college.
Mohsin initially performed solo, under the name MKS, but over the next seven years he spent in his new Oregon home, he grew as an artist and befriended many talented musicians who, in varying iterations, featured with him to become The Totals.
“Passing Through” (2019) was their poppy debut album, blending shimmery guitars with a driving rock beat, followed by a more mature, heavy, and rock-forward sophomore album “Divided” (2020). A combination of the pandemic and a move back to his home in Boston shifted tones and directions for Mohsin, resulting in the third more emotionally charged “Out At The Blue” (2022). Back on his own, but continuing under The Totals establishedmoniker, this new album was recorded at Big Nice Studio in Providence, RI, followed shortly after by a second EP (2023) during a hiatus he took to start his family.
Emerging again from a familiar basement setting, Mohsin has finished a fourth album, aptly titled “In Solitude”. With fewer friends featured and flexing more roles within the album himself, The Totals have gone back to their roots; To a sound born of just Mohsin and his laptop. The unique songwriting style and sound is now enriched with over a decade of recording experience and countless personal influences from a myriad of musical relationships
Channeling the mixes of Sir Paul McCartney’s solo career, the grit of I Am Kloot, and of course the acoustic backbone of some of Oasis’s B-sides that were at the core of Mohsin’s songwriting inspirations, “In Solitude” will be released July 10th, 2026.
